My name is _________, and today I will present this discussion on why nursing informatics is the key to achieving quality outcomes when applying the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice.

Our long-term care facility started using an EHR system in place of paper records, the cause of which this presentation is aimed at explaining. In the nursing field, technology is also used in informatics to assist in making better patient-related decisions and enhancing patient outcomes (Kleib et al., 2021).
Through an EHR system, the information will be more precise, the doctors will have an increased capability of coordinating the care, and the records of the patients will become simpler to access in real-time. Being a newly hired nurse informaticist in the long-term care facility, I will describe how EHRs and ANA Standards of Practice can help improve patient care, streamline the documentation process, enhance communication, and assist in data-driven decision-making.

Healthcare applies the ICT tools and systems to aid in the collection, management, sharing, and processing of patient information. ICTs have facilitated nurses to interact and retrieve information as well as make decisions in their practice. The most effective evidence-based practices to implement ICTs in nursing have to do with the integration of EHRs, clinical decision support systems (CDSS), and telehealth platforms (Upadhyay & Hu, 2022).
The technologies facilitate care coordination, documented in a timely manner, minimize medication errors, and support the real-time exchange of patient information across interprofessional teams. According to a study by Shahmoradi et al. (2021), care planning, improved accuracy of documentation, and adherence to evidence-based protocols are major areas of improvement due to the implementation of EHRs and CDSS tools, which subsequently lead to better patient outcomes and decreased readmission rates.
Clinicians receive valuable messages and helpful recommendations through CDSS, thus being in a position to abide by best practices and reducing the risks of making mistakes with prescriptions. Barcode-based systems to identify patients and their medications have minimized the possibility of potential patients receiving the wrong medication (Upadhyay & Hu, 2022). Moreover, ANA promotes the implementation of informatics to approve patient-centered care in which nurses are expected to be able to utilize tools that can facilitate efficient, safe and ethical practice.

ICT application in the healthcare industry is useful in enhancing various dimensions of care. Some of the primary advantages include improved patient care, efficient collaboration among the representatives of various health teams, and evidence-based decision-making. As an example, EHR will enable medical staff to have an opportunity to review patient information within a short duration in real-time without making mistakes.
When there is good communication between the health team members, they ensure that the plan of care of the patient remains on track, and there is no duplication in counseling (Tawfik et al., 2021). In addition, the use of data analytics in these systems assists organizations to identify trends in patient care to ensure the doctors respond to such trends.
Conversely, there are also some challenges associated with the introduction of ICT. Purchasing, modifying, and up keeping technologies may be an expensive aspect and this may strain the budget of a medical facility. Data security and privacy are also of importance, especially when the number of cyber threats and breaches of protected health information (PHI) continues to grow. It is necessary to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other regulatory systems to protect patient information (Edemekong et al., 2024).
Furthermore, the lack of knowledge regarding the utilization of online tools or the technological discomfort of the staff may pose a problem. Nonetheless, the academic literature points out that, when properly planned and funded, ICTs do not only improve efficiency and eliminate mistakes but also enable nurses to make informed decisions in clinical settings (Nagy et al., 2023). In the planning of implementing ICT systems in an organization, there is need to evaluate the positive as well as the negative.

Theoretical Framework: Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)
Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is a popular theory that is used to explain the process of acceptance and use of new technologies by users. TAM is the idea that there are two antecedent factors that influence technology adoption: perceived usefulness (the extent to which an individual thinks that the utilization of the system will improve their performance at work) and perceived ease of use (the extent to which an individual believes that the utilization of the system will be effortless) (Zhang et al., 2023). Using TAM to EHR implementation triggers organizations to concentrate on the perception of nurses and healthcare providers to resist challenges that might arise.
As an illustration, the benefits of EHRs related to patient safety and ease of work and simplifying the interface and making it user-friendly can be explained during the training courses. The TAM provides the management of the change between paper to electronic records among the nurses in long-term care. A more likely scenario is that a nurse will adopt an EHR when he or she assumes that it will save time, enhance accuracy, and assist him/her in communicating, and it is also user-friendly and well supported (Zhang et al., 2023). TAM can assist organizations to solve problems, have positive feedback and higher likelihood of successful use of EHR.

Through the application of theoretical frameworks, such as the TAM, the problem of digital access disparities, substandard standards of data accuracy, security, and evidence-based practice can be resolved, and the tangible advantages of informatics can be achieved by healthcare institutions.
