Healthcare has a common objective of improving collaboration in order to gain increased effectiveness, innovation, and patient satisfaction. A leader facilitates cooperation as an influencer in solving problems, a communicator, and a goal achiever. Awasthi’s study was based on good leadership and good skills to develop team spirit that leads to employee involvement, reduces conflict among employees in a work organization, and produces desirable outcomes. This paper focuses on qualities of team leadership, techniques of fostering collaboration and goal attainment, and a game plan for team development and conflict management.
Characteristics of Effective Team Leadership
Communication skills will ensure that no conflicts happen in an organization since leaders communicate with each other, and there will be no misunderstandings and confusion when working in groups. Another vital attribute of a good leader is adaptability because, as organisations face changes in priorities, problems with employees, etc they need to be adaptable. Leaders should have flexibility to inspire others to address all issues.
The Damatov study notes that in such cases, the quality of leaders makes the team more efficient. The qualities of good inclusive leadership include encouraging participation from all the team, including diverse perspectives, and the need for diverse perspectives to be part of the decision-making process. On the contrary, an ethical leader has a characteristic of being honest and sincere.
Models of Effective Team Leadership
Leadership has different styles that can be implemented when working with teams and organizations in order to increase their effectiveness. One of those types of leadership is transformational leadership, and this type of leadership is most popular because it involves individual motivation and skills. It enables them to encourage others to achieve more than they thought they could! The other leadership model that can be applied is the “servant leadership approach”. The essence of the servant leadership approach includes followers’ needs and good relations with employees.
In particular, the main aim of the servant leader approach to managing includes helping the follower to develop both professionally and personally. According to recent scholarly research, the relationship between workers’ satisfaction and trust can be greatly increased by implementing the servant leadership approach. The primary advantage of adopting the situational leadership approach is that you’ll realize that the problem with a lack of experience as a leader has no solution. As an illustration, new hires would need more support than experienced employees, who do not need any other directions in decision-making.
Interventions to Promote Collaboration and Goal Attainment
There are interventions that can be put in place to ensure effective communication within the organization, build trust, and promote collaborative working to meet the objectives of the organization. Some of the interventions include role-play games, simulations, and problem-solving exercises in order to develop a feeling of communication between the employees. Shared decision-making intervention is the intervention that the organization needs so that the members can act in harmony to achieve the organization’s goals.
When they work together, the employees take pride in knowing that they are important and hence achieve the targets. Goal-setting interventions help the team members achieve their goals. Goal setting is setting realistic targets and time frames to achieve them. The importance of goal setting among the employees is that they become aware of what is expected of them.
Game Plan for Team Development and Conflict Resolution
To be able to implement it properly, the leadership model must include the assessment of the situation of the team in terms of its organizational structure, communications, and the problems that can lead to some improvement. First, it is important to determine the roles played by all team members by the team leaders to prevent any possible miscommunication.
Secondly, the organization should provide its employees with sessions on effective communication and conflict resolution skills. Third, organizations should employ various strategies that help solve problems between members of a particular team. Most of them include the use of such methods as mediation, team building, peer feedback, and seminars on communication. Last but not least, the performance assessment, where feedback is given, is part of the final stage.
Conclusion
Effective communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and responsibility are some of the key things needed to ensure successful leadership of healthcare teams. Three styles of leadership that have a definite positive impact in improving collaboration and team performance are transformational, servant, and situational leadership. Also, there is the concern of organizational communication training and shared decision-making in order to attain organizational goals. Developing a strategy for working and dealing with conflict with a team is essential. This will ensure that the team will succeed even in the face of the challenges that they have along the road.
