Slide 01
Hello TW, we’d like to welcome you formally to the Lakeland Medical Clinic on this project, which is very important – the Diversity Enhancement Project. Delivering culturally sensitive, safe, and equitable care to all clients at Lakeland Medical Clinic is a top priority. Thank you for your understanding of the trust issues and barriers in communicating, and of the additional effort needed to make your clients more welcome in the Haitian community.
Slide 02
This project aims to create a balance in order to heal and gain trust amongst the Haitian community as well as improve the experience of all clients who come to a clinic. Another aspect of the initiative is to raise the participation of stakeholders in the clinic. I’ll just briefly take you through the project and the desired course of action in bringing the project to fruition. The project and its targets will be covered by the presentation, and typical target population group features will be described. With this initiative, we aim to develop a culturally and collaboratively focused team that will address gaps in the clinic’s vision and diversity-focused care.
Slide 03
Project Goals and Objectives
For this diversity project, there are multiple priorities. The first is to regain and restore the trust of the Haitian community served by this clinic. The second is to build staff’s cultural competence. The third is to enhance patient experience throughout the clinic. The removal of the impediments to effective intercultural communication, respect, and comfort of patients will contribute to making the clinic more inclusive. An important part of providing quality care to patients from diverse cultures is the communication between the patient and nurse, which is open and effective. One of the major concerns with this project is to overcome the multiple cultural misunderstandings that are anticipated to help the situation with patient visits to the clinic.
The creation of a collaborative committee of culturally humble members and then a quick assessment of the cultural needs of the clinic are among our goals. Psychological safety and a commitment to shared governance are aspects of an inclusive culture that this initiative seeks to achieve (Rogozińska-Pawełczyk, 2023). This is a strategy to embed the goals to enhance DEI literacy in healthcare systems, ethical leadership, and organizational integrity. First, we will conduct an inventory of current processes and patient/staff feedback to uncover where there are gaps that are culturally unresponsive. We also assume that space for open communication can be created both among the staff members and with community members to identify, sustain, and implement improvements that will build patient trust and improve the clinic’s overall performance.
Slide 04
Key Priorities and Their Importance
Progress on meaningful DEI requires that specific underlying elements be discussed. The first of these is a comprehensive DEI assessment to collect staff and patient feedback, cultural obstacles, and disparity analysis to inform data-led decisions.
The second priority is to look at the organisation’s recruitment and promotion procedures and organisational policies governing communication with patients and conflict resolution. These should all be tied into ethical boundaries, Equal Opportunity, DEI best practices, etc. The third would be culturally aware and bias training, which would enhance patient care through better communication less cultural misunderstandings. The last priority would be rewarding collective inclusivity, lower turnover, and better teamwork through an overall culture of psychological safety through respect.
Slide 05
Ideal Team Composition
The ideal team for this project should be an interprofessional team with a diverse mix and highly competent at dealing with diversity, equity, and inclusion and taking ethical considerations in hand. A clinical leader (nurse/physician) will be extremely useful to identify gaps in care and establish clinical alignment; an HR diversity and compliance specialist will champion just and fair practice within the organization; and a patient advocate/social worker will advocate for the cultural and social needs of the diverse patient population.
Other community members who will have a culturally competent perspective of the clientele, a community member who will serve as an objective reviewer and analyzer, and a DEI consultant complete the team (Chhabra et al., 2025). The committee should have as much diversity as possible, with members who have knowledge in the field of ethics and are experienced leaders of culturally intelligent organizations. One of the Haitians in the community will be able to ensure that the project remains culturally responsive to the Haitian community and others.
These external voices will help to decolonize our thinking and provide culturally appropriate solutions to build trust and work long-term in the community. Working in partnership with the right mix of internal and external professionals – some of whom will have some sort of diversity knowledge – the team will be capable of meeting the challenges at hand and be able to provide appropriate solutions that will endure.
Slide 06
Leadership Role and Collaboration Plan
For this work, I will be doing various leadership roles. I will clear lines of communication, keep the group accountable, and make sure each member feels valued and respected. As a collaborative team, we will encourage effective communication, which may include regular meetings, shared documents, and open communication to ensure all know. But rather than the shared governance theory, or as the authors propose: the evidence – based approach, people will be free to make noise and speak in an organized and polite way without confusion (del Pozo et al., 2024). The various models of teamwork developed and refined over the years (SBAR, RACI Matrix) will be actively applied to the team. The group norms will be about fairness and active involvement, to facilitate a safe and positive work environment.
Face-to-face meetings and continuous communication via online tools will be emphasized. Promoting active participation, sharing, and communication will take place using Microsoft Teams. We will have open forums to build and develop our ideas. From here, we shall use a consensus way of decision-making. This will promote the equal weighting of all ideas offered, including those of a clinical and community focus.
Each member has a specified role. The clinical director will review inequities in care. The HR specialist will be responsible for managing implications of the policy. The patient advocate will share lived experiences. The DEI consultant will share external best practices. The community representative will guarantee a fusion of values and traditions present in the community.
Slide 07
Characteristics of a Diverse Workplace
The workplace is diverse, with both men and women employed in a variety of roles and tasks. A diverse workplace includes all kinds of backgrounds: race, ethnicity, gender, age, language, ability/culture, etc., which makes the workplace diverse and representative of the community it serves. Inclusive leadership actively values all voices – these workplaces exist. Moreover, with a transparent policy that fosters equity, justice, and opportunity, the workplace will be a diverse one. Diversity also fosters the development of cultural competency, which, in conjunction with care communication standards and practices, allows employees to deliver courteous and care-focused care for the needs of the patient (Lim et al., 2023).
The ability to speak out ideas without judgment further fosters psychological safety, trust, and respect in the workplace. Finally, long-lasting inclusivity of an environment that is fair and protective of prejudice and discrimination, and provides equal opportunity for growth and advancement can be sustained due to the continuous support of stable and equitable diverse workplaces.
Slide 08
Benefits of Workforce Diversity
Diverse staffing enhances health care by increasing staff cultural understanding and care for patients and decreasing mistakes and mistrust. The community has a positive view of organisations, and employment diversity creates a positive image and goodwill and trust among the community. Workplace diversity aligns with the ANA Code of Ethics, compliance and legal requirements and enhances healthcare practices and services. Healthcare teams that are diverse and multicultural enhance the quality of services and care provided to all patients (Eyiah et al., 2025).
Slide 09
Conclusion
The goal of this project is to enhance DEI at Lakeland through a commitment to tackling priorities that expand patient care, improve the experiences of staff, and develop the culture of the organization. The results will rely on everyone’s ability to work as a team, have efficient processes and communication, and exhibit integrity as leaders. In all the activities of this project, we will strive to uphold the principles of inclusion and equity. I encourage you all to think outside the box, engage in joint responsibility, and work towards building an even more inclusive and welcoming workplace.
