Individually answer the following sections in accordance with your study of the Spruce Paper Company employee profiles in the preparation of this assessment. Whatever resources you use in this assessment should be referenced on the reference page.
- Enter the information about the role and the status of each team member on the chart below. Next, respond to the following in 1-2 sentences: How did your status/ role influence your engagement and collaboration with others?
- Status refers to the role that a person holds in society, such as his/her job title.
- Role is how an individual of a particular status is supposed to behave in the project.
Status | Role | How did their status or role impact how they engaged and collaborated with others? (1–2 sentences each)
Rita | Senior Marketing Leader | Project leader responsible for managing multiple departments and ensuring deadlines and budgets were met. | Rita was an experienced staff member, and the project manager endowed her with the power to make decisions related to the project, but in some cases, she over-relied on Nimish, and this influenced some other members who felt that they were not being included. |
Nimish | Technical Support Specialist (Marketing) | Offered distance-based technical support services and made sure that all members could use communication tools. | The remote location and language barrier hindered collaboration with Nimish, but his initiative to colleagues led to him being more active, becoming more inclusive and connected. |
Dave | Graduate Marketing intern | Supported the team with market research, proposals, and presentations | Dave, as an intern, had less formal authority and was in a learning position, but he was able to make a significant contribution with ideas and administrative support. |
Ernesto | Retired Industry Consultant | Provided expert advice. Gave direction, outlined challenges, and mentored junior employees. | While he had the necessary experience in the field, his knowledge was somewhat outdated. Just like others, he found it bothersome but managed to resolve conflicts and guide Dave on the path of development, which helped improve the work team. |
- Each of the team members demonstrated at least one type of relationship-building strategy.
- Relationship-building strategies:
- Mutual Respect.
- Open Communication.
Relationship-Building Strategies Supported by Evidence
Rita | The Mindfulness and Open Communication approach: She tried to be impartial in her confidence in Nimish, discussing the matter with the team before making her decisions and showing fairness in her thinking. |
Nimish | Open Communication – Nimish is willing to go out of his way to resolve communication challenges by calling upon those who are on his team to find out their technological preferences and comfort, by making sure that everyone can effectively partner with him even though he is remotely based and has an accent. |
Dave | Trust – Dave built trust since he ensured that all team members were attributed with his idea, which improved the relationships and portrayed his transparency and readiness to collaborate. |
Ernesto | Mutual Respect – Ernesto has been mentoring Dave and showing him how to set goals and deadlines; this makes the intern grow professionally, although the knowledge base that Ernesto has is not as current. His mentorship is deferential both in the potential of Dave and in the fostering of a good working relationship. |
- Identify at least two (2) collaborative strategies that the team members at Spruce Paper Company used to complete their project. Be sure to use evidence to illustrate how they used those strategies.
- Collaborative strategies:
- Establish goals, roles, and responsibilities.
- Maintain a respectful group dynamic.
- Practice open communication and trust.
Collaborative Strategy | How did the team use that strategy (provide evidence)?
1 | Establish goals, roles, and responsibilities. | Being a project leader, Rita could assign responsibilities to all departments, and accountability was enhanced by Ernesto, who summed up matters across the departments. |
2 | Practice open communication and trust. | The members were considerate of the other team members even though there were issues like remote interaction and language accent disparities. Rita ensured that the discussion of similar topics as accents of Nimish and mentoring of Ernesto are transparent, and this helped build the respect towards the strong points of each one and what should be done to enhance them. |
- Use the course material or another credible source to support your explanation.
Collaboration and relationship building are important as they enable one to work with others towards shared aims, sharing their knowledge, talent, and resources (Feist et al., 2020). At work, teamwork can be used to make sure a project is finished on time, a problem is solved in a creative manner, and, due to different viewpoints, better results are achieved.
Building relationships is also significant, as it builds trust and respect, without which no career can be successful in the long term (Abson et al., 2024). Strong relationships in personal life form emotional support networks that enable people to get through tough situations and pursue personal goals. Teamwork, successful communication, and mutual success are built on collaboration and relationships.
